Looking for a change of pace, I tried Le Diamant de l'île maudite last night!

My French is passable (J'ai étudié le francais au niveau 'A Level' et il y a vingt ans je parlais pas mal) but of course I haven't really played adventure games in French before so guessing the keywords was a bit of a problem! Also, whereas I was expecting nord, sud, oest, est, the commands were unfamiliar (gauche, droit, avance).

After a while j'ai avancé trop au mer et sadly je suis devenu un repas for les requins.

I did enjoy the graphics and the atmosphere of it and will come back to it when I have more time.

Generally, though, I don't enjoy adventure games as a genre nearly as much now as when I was a child... I guess this is do with a lack of free time, a more frenetic pace of life generally, and a change in what we classify as entertainment (as we get older, and as time passes). I used to love exploring on the old Level 9 adventure games even if I didn't get far.

This game has a quite special system for the map, like it's an actual grid, but each of the locations has four directions, so you can turn around the tower from the four angles, you really need to write down what you see and which direction you look at else you can miss quite a lot of things.

Also there are two parts, the first part is on the island itself, the second part is underground in dangerous caves.

Thanks, that's helpful to know -- I started to see that but was too tired to figure out how it all worked. I will come back to it when I have a free full evening! And get out my notepad and make a map, old school.

Memories of escaping the goblins' dungeon and 'The nasty goblin captures you...' come flooding back...

There was the solution with the map of the island in one of the issues of Theoric, but can't remember which one.

I did a full review, map and English vocabulary translation for this fabulous adventure in Issue 7 of Your Oric (June/July 1987), which is available on the Defence Force library - download the issue at
https://library.defence-force.org/books ... 987_07.pdf

Was that really 35 years ago?!!!

You might want to watch those videos:

They are in French but you said you understand French so it should be okay.
And the automatic subtitles might help as well.
