Popped it out of its case:

5V is fairly obvious! And the trace at the back of the PCB goes to the VCC pin.

Header pins, cables and programmer ordered.

Hi my friends,

maxduino v1.60 has been officially released for Oric tap speedup (after Alfredo Retrocant testing):

More awesomeness!

In preparation of the bits I need to reflash my TZXDuino arriving I have installed the IDE etc.

Noob question alert!

What do I actually need to download to get the latest version?

My screen is already configured and working - will changing the firmware alter this or is that done separately?

Many thanks.

@Lardo, not many...

First, the IDE version. I use 1.8 4. Different IDE means different optimizations. Because free space is so small, different an unexpected program size may happen, you know max space is 30720 bytes ..

In the beta zone, in my github you have different subdirs. Navigate to Troubleshooting abd you cand find all versions from the begginning, abd a subdir called libraries: mainly you need lcd for old tzxduino and sdfat for accesing your sdcard.

You can always email me, after the first time the process never change..

Cost. In many applications they won't be needed. It costs nothing (well ... a tiny amount) to add the appropriate holes/tracks/silk-screen to bring the pads to somewhere a connector *could* go, at design time, once, but the connector costs money every time you make one.

A similar thing happens on the Raspberry PI zero (the 40-way I/O expansion connector is missing, as is any connector for "reset" and the composite video out. Saves unneeded components (if you need these features, pads are there, solder in a 40-w connector or JUST the pins you need). Also for the composite video, it saves the board space for a phono/cinch socket, which is huge by comparison to the Pi zero!

For one off/short production runs, you may not care about a few pence here and there. For mass production, it matters.

If I'm reparing an Oric, I put sockets in where the removed chips were, the cost is neither here nor there for one, two, or several repairs, vs the convenience of being able to chip change in future.

If Oric had used sockets for all chips in the first place, they would have gone bust sooner. :)

Hi Chema,

A very small tribute to your work and Oric's community, indeed. Glad you like it. :D

Rafa

Ps. Just a pity we do not have a .TAP 1337/Elite version, disk is a must for your work :)

I have loaded Snowball (30,734 bytes) on my setup:-

1200 baud : 3 minutes 30 seconds to load
3850 baud : 2 minutes 5 seconds to load

A definite speed up!
