Hi All
New to the Oric world... just got an Oric 1 after the Atmos.... but this one is showing a screen with bars never going to the basic(screenshot attached). Any hint where to start would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Oric 1 bars on boot
Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
Here is the same answer as in FB:
If this picture comes EVERY time after power-on then the VIA 6522 is broken.
This failure was discussed many times.

Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
Just got a spare g65sc22p-1 which replaces the VIA on the 1541 drives. Can this one be used here too?
Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
You should need a 6522A which is a 2Mhz version of the 6522 IIRC the 6522's used in Commodore kit was/is the standard 1Mhz 6522 so I would say not.

Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
Looking at the datasheet for the 65sc22P it can run @ 1,2,3,4,5 and 6MHz so in that respect it can run at the right speed but I know getting a 65c02 CPU to run in an Oric can be fiddly so I am not sure about a 65c22P I think I have one myself so I will have to give it a try.

Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
I also held this opinion previously, but I have noted that there seem to be some times bog standard 1MHz 6522s installed in the Orics from the factory.
Edit: But it should be a 2MHz part. The R6522 datasheet has a minimum ø2 pulse width (high) of 470ns for the 1MHz part and Oric uses only 333ns. It may or may not work depending on the individual chip.
Re: Oric 1 bars on boot
I know it was drummed into me ever since my OUM days back in the 90's that you needed the 2Mhz model for an Oric to work but I have seen bog standard 6522's used to fix them and they worked. I think I may have even used one myself in the past just to get an Oric up and working but I got some 6522A's a while back along with some ULA's from a seller in Bulgaria ( probably old Pravetz stock
)
