ORIC logo HIRES tap file?

The Oric video chip is not an easy beast to master, so any trick or method that allows to achieve nice visual results is welcome. Don't hesitate to comment (nicely) other people tricks and pictures :)

ORIC logo HIRES tap file?

Post by jsk »

I tried to do some simple conversions of generic images to ORIC hires format.

I've noticed that I think I never seen an ORIC logo on the actual ORIC hires screen?

I mean with black/white/red lines etc.

It's not super-trivial, I'm guessing somebody has hand-coded some variant, but I've not been able to find any?

It would be funny if the logo was too complicated to show faithfully on the actual ORIC because of the attribute/color limitations. :-D

My intial thought is that one would need to do rather much wrangling with attributes, and maybe realignment to get there?

In case anyone have example hires screen.tap file?

You seem to be exploring the Oric's unique attribute system with some degree of enthusiasm - are you familiar with the PictOric library and the terrific results it can provide?

The thing is, when I saw PictOric, and the AIC ideology, it kind of blew my mind as an original ('83) Oric-1 owner.

So, yeah, Oric HIRES Logo? Please do one! Bonus points if you use mixed video modes to make it tight looking, i.e. only 64 pixels of HIRES on a TEXT screen, with 26/30, etc...

Well, not Hires, and yes, I directly admit it is probably somewhat clumsy, but I did do a Oric logo in text mode with redefined PETSCII (so the Commodore charset) like font….
It is included as sample in Oric Screen Editor.

I guess the only Oric logos I had in my prods were these two:

By the way: think designing a logo that your own platform can not properly display for me is a design flaw.
Every other 8 bit platform I own can show its brand logo in color (And yes, obviously many monochrome computers can also not).
Love the logo esthetics, but….
