Retro Computer Shack SCART/Peritel cable

If you want to ask questions about how the machine works, peculiar details, the differences between models, here it is !
How to program the oric hardware (VIA, FDC, ...) is also welcome.

Aha, thanks ISS but this is the other cable, the Oric standard one that I opened long ago for whatever reason (maybe because the synch was broken indeed :) )
Anyway I know how to fix this one now, thanks ;)

For Retrocomputer Shack cable check also if the ground wire (the shielding) is not broken.
Missing or bad ground can be the reason for such "unsynchronized" picture.

Will do, thanks.
What makes me hopeful that it's only a TV RGB switch problem, is that the Retrocomputer Shack cable is working fine on an Amiga monitor.

Hi all!

Another option before I'm able to test anything would be going down the lazy road and try this one:
https://coolnovelties.co.uk/coolnovelti ... 07293.html

Before I do... Has anyone ever bought a cable from there, and would know if both pins 8 and 16 of the SCART are powered with this cable?
Thanks ;)

Well, just for the follow-up, I asked but got no reply from Retrocomputer Shak, nor from Coolnovelties.

Coolnovelties is great, have many cables from them even with the expensive UK to EU shipping, but never tried their Oric cables,
Have the Retro Computer Shack one for the Oric, which for me works great on my Sony Trinitron CRT TV, but moved to RGbtoHDMi mostly now to LCD monitor which works for me even bette, certainly for video capture.

I do notice though that only one of the two SCART inputs on my Sony CRT give proper picture, the other one does give a picture much like yours. Reason is only one of the two SCART inputs is RGB enabled. Is by the way the same with ZX Spectrum 128 cables.

So are you actually sure your TV has a RGB capable SCART input? And that on your TV having that additional pin connected will actually solve anything?

@Symoon: Do you have a multimeter? Maybe it's worth to measure the continuity (and the resistor values) between both ends of the cable.

Yes, I tested it with the original Oric externally powered Scart cable and it displays a nice picture ;)
The only difference between both SCART cables being pin 8 that is not connected on Retrocomputer Shack's one.

Sadly not.
But I do intend to test Retrocomputer Shack's cable along with an additional power source on pin 8 to confirm. I should be able to do that next week!

Not sure what the TV capabilities are, but I found out that on some TV's enabling the "AV" mode, or activating the "teletext" would sometimes make the Oric picture appear properly on the screen.

So!
I made the following "wonderful Christmas cable":
- plugged the Retrocomputer Shack's scart cable on the TV
- powered a standard Oric scart cable with 12v
- plugged it a female-scart-to-female-scart peritel converter
- got the power and ground from this female scart connectors, using incerdibly non secure wires

Looks like this:

And then plugged everything ON... TADAAA:

So indeed, on this TV, it's pin 8 that switches to RGB mode.
I also tried by unpowering the Retrocomputer Shack's scart cable, but then got the classic stable but barely visible picture (grey on grey). So pin 16 is also useful here.
Anyway, now I'd need to get the power from another source (no joke ;)), and maybe the ground too (not sure if it's actually useful?), but the power wire to pin 16 on Retrocomputer Shack's scart cable is actually completely protected.

Well I just found back the doc of the TV, and yes, there is a way to do it finally
Not so easy though: you have to use the channel zero, and ask the TV to search for UK channels (not Europe), and after having searched in UHF, it searches in VHF and THEN the image is synchronized - then memorize it on the zero channel.
Works with the Retrocomputer Shack cable, now got to try with an unpowered Oric cable.
