Auto-detecting CLOAD speed from tape - any use?

This is the best place to discuss about the various Oric operating systems like Sedoric, Randos, FT-Dos, and others, as well as serious software, utilities, word processors, disassemblers, etc... that runs on oric computers.

Auto-detecting CLOAD speed from tape - any use?

Post by Symoon »

Hi,
I was tempted by the idea of writing a loading routine that would automatically detect if a recording is at fast speed or slow speed, hence loading it at the right speed.

But would there be use cases for it?
The only one I can see is to make a tape index (file name, addresses) whatever is recorded on a tape, even mixing fast and slow speed. Run the program, run the tape, there you go.

I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
Any other ideas what it could be useful for?
