New Microdisc controller available

This is the right place to discuss on how to implement hardware vsync, adding a VIA or AY chipset, puting multiple roms, or how to design a new flash expansion card.

New Microdisc controller available

Post by jorodr »

Hello guys,
I have created new Microdisc compatible controller (with a little help from a frined of mine). You can see at the picture attached. It can work with 3.5" floppy drive and with a HXS floppy emulator too. I hope you will enjoy my work :)
Best regards,
George

Is that based on the Cumana schematics we published?

This is fantastic! Are the components easy to find? Maybe this is the solution for all of us who want a Microdisc system for our Orics...

Some of them are not so easy to find, but I have components for now. I'm preparing 10 boards - 6 for some of my friends and 4 are waiting owners :)
Differently with the Microdisc, the new boards will be blue :)

Because I have some mails and PM for order boards, there is only one board available. But it's not too late to rise the boards at the PCB-factory. If there are some other people wish the controller, let me know.

I want one, and I can build myself, just need the board and firmware.

Sorry,
I have spent more than a year of working on this new controller, spending a lot of time and money. If I sell controllers I prefer to solder and live them up by myself to back the money I have spent. My projects are not commercial at all, they carry a lot of pleasure for me as I wish they will carry to anyone can have them.

Is an amplibus necessary?

I am definitely interested in this. Have you thought about how much they will cost? Do they need, as slicebit pointed out, the amplibus card, or is it integrated on the board?

No, it don't need amplibus. I'm using special ribbon cable I've bought from the USA to be sure the signals are OK. The price with this cable will be about 100 euros. The shipping is about another 10. Maybe if there is bigger order (more than 20-30) I could talk about less price with the PCB-factory and the vintage chips suppliers. If DBug want could send PM and mails to the oricians to make group order.
