Cumana Reborn and OLED display

This is the right place to discuss on how to implement hardware vsync, adding a VIA or AY chipset, puting multiple roms, or how to design a new flash expansion card.

Cumana Reborn and OLED display

Post by HigashiJun »

Just to show how the Cumana Reborn can be nice and match ATMOS colours, by swapping its original LCD display for an OLED one:

I just had to enlarge the opening in the bezel in order to fit the new OLED display.

Of course, if you also swap the flat cable for a black one, the final result is even better :D.

I now have FF 3.20 and everything works great.

Cheers.

Could you provide some links or references to the screen you got, and maybe some photos of the modification you did?

Sure, here are some details:

The 1602 OLED display was bought in an online shop in Japan called KYOHRITSU.

I guess you can however found the same kind of displays in your area. Just remember to choose a 5V one and not 3.3V.

If you want to install this display, you will have to enlarge the bezel of your Cumana Reborn as the frames of these OLEDs are slightly larger (and also modify positions of the holding screws). I used a simple file to complete this work. Cyanolit glue or Epoxy will help you to hold the screws.

The black ribbon was custom made. You will need a black ASUS floppy ribbon (34 pins), 2 crimp FDD connectors (34 pins) and a crimping tool to make one.

The whole job is not hard, but may take some time. Just be careful while filing the bezel, as you can ruin it if you are not cautious.

And for information, here is a peak view of the inner side of the OLED:

Is the blue/white adjustable resistor to adjust the brightness of the screen?

This resistor is rather used for contrast adjustment.
