Erebus does not starts
Erebus does not starts
Hello,
Recently I got Erebus from ebay, and upon attaching (one way, no chance to misalign) and after CLOAD""
I got only Searching, no list of games etc
I checked the card, it has few preinstalled tap images, but no joy (it comes formatted and preinstalled).
The reset button is workin ok. I've made a vid
Any advices please?

Re: Erebus does not starts
Did the picture actually start to flicker like that after you typed CLOAD, or is it just a camera problem?
Re: Erebus does not starts
I found out this is rather common problem, I wonder if there is a solution

Meanwhile, I changed supplied card to very old 256mb one, still same results

Re: Erebus does not starts
it works with a 512Mb card, I have never tried with a smaller memory, it is necessary to format the SDcard in FAT16, some smartphones do format in FAT32 even if there is a low capacity in the SDcard.
Re: Erebus does not starts
Nah, it is working neither with supplied 2Gb nor with 265Mb cards
Re: Erebus does not starts
Without SDCard, Erebus will try to send a "0" SPI code several times without answer, and finally the computer will give a "MEMORY ERROR" message.
With a SDCard without TAP files, the computer will erase the screen and will give a "READY" message.
If all this happens, that mean that Erebus is ok and the SDcard is the probleme of the failure.

Re: Erebus does not starts
Thank you for late night reply, I am going to check that. Will report tomorrow!
UPD
That was quick one
Unfortunately nothing is changed, same as in video
It shows only SEARCHING ..
And no Ready, it just freezes? that way
Could it be Oric is bad? Though reset button is working
Re: Erebus does not starts
Maybe it's a problem with the MAP signal, and instead of Erebus you are actually on the real Oric rom.
What about trying to load an actual tape from the tape connector?
(Alternatively I guess we could try to PEEK in the #C000-#FFFF area to check if it's a normal or patched rom)

Re: Erebus does not starts
I agree with Dbug, there may be a UVPROM instead of the ROM in the Oric.
NB: The pin used by Erebus is /ROMDIS.

Re: Erebus does not starts
The chip is a 27128 UVPROM with a 16k memory, in this case the Erebus don't work, you must burn an other UVPROM with a ROMDIS pin compatible.
Re: Erebus does not starts
I assume that means this Oric would not work with a Microdisc, Cumulus or Cumana Reborn either, it's not a specific requirement from Erebus?
