Cumana Reborn DSK support

This is the best place to discuss about the various Oric operating systems like Sedoric, Randos, FT-Dos, and others, as well as serious software, utilities, word processors, disassemblers, etc... that runs on oric computers.

I get it that it's often a question of signal, what I don't get is why it's so consistent in what works or not.

If it was really weak signals, then some games would sometimes work, sometimes don't work, sometimes random errors.

My experience is exactly the same as Bieno:
- Some of the HFE files always run
- Some just fail to boot at all (generally get stuck after the boot sequence)

Could it be something with the acess to the USB disk?
Did you try with a single HFE that works on the USB key, then deleting it and replacing it with a HFE that previously didn't work?

Hmm... could it be something in FAT32, i.e. GPT vs. MBR? Actually, doesn't FAT16 work, anyway, and be less fuss?

Maybe try to format the USB stick in Linux, versus Windows? Could be the 'quick-format' techniques in use on either platform are futzing up the Cumana firmware ..

Possibly, but the sticks were provided by the seller, and other people are saying that the default files work.
On the stick I got, my Oric Tech demo just freezes on startup

Piotr answered my email and I have been talking to him.
The Barbitoric demo also works and I hope it draws positive conclusions that will solve these problems for us.

If you manage to get it all solved, please give a summary of what was done so I can try with mine :)

After several common Piotr emails and testing the potentiometer (the one in the attached photo), in the end I have sent him La Cumana Reborn and he will fix it himself.

I did not even know there was some adjustable resistors in the device, did he suggest to try changing the position to see if that helps?
Would be nice if that was the same issue on mine.

He suggested that I do tests by turning it slightly in both directions but in the end I could not improve the problem I had

Cumana Reborn is based on Cumana which has the variable resister. It affects how the disk is read so shouldn't be the cause of boot-up issues. It looks under-powered to me, but I'm no expert.

Might that be a cause? I do not use an original PSU and here it works perfect.

I tried three different psu, did not change a thing in my case at least.
