Thread (PDF or whatever) export?

In this forum you can write about anything that does not fit in other forums.
This includes generic Oric talkings and things that are totaly unrelated but want to share with people here :)

Thread (PDF or whatever) export?

Post by Symoon »

Hi,

Well, as I realsied the amount of great technical information some of the threads are holding, I was wondering if in any future some options could exist to export discussions into a file like PDF or whatever?
I know nothing is magic and that would be some work on Dbug's side, so I'm also wondering if I'm the only one interested in such an option ;)

Something like that https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2103170 ?

I think the print to pdf should work, but of course to see all the pages you need to get a mode for that as well https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2098880

Yes. Actually I searched the page for a "save to PDF" button for 3 minutes before realising you were pointing to the discussion :D

Mmmmh, so I'm actually asking for two things!
If I had to pick up one, I suppose the "Print All Posts in Topic" would be the most useful. One can have its own PDF printer (and according to the mod description, the whole thread can be stored, too).

I have used Print-to-PDF as an alternative to bookmarks for decades, so this is a great idea imho. Might be a way to tell phpBB to show all messages in a thread already though ..

So, you should normally have a "Print all" option added to the small wrench icon menu.
Please try it and tell me if that works as you wanted.

Yes, my idea was to be able to have a pdf of a whole thread.
I posted an example in the other thread, following Dbug's announcement of the upgrade.

Many operating systems have a "print to PDF" option available.

Woob can export phpbb posts as text (markdown or html IIRC) messages, I once used that to prepare prints for the Alchimie about the attendants machines.
