Re: Hello from Spain

Hola to Bieno and Steve M's story. Same here; I got an Oric-1 in late 1983 - only reason to choose Oric was what I could afford and I didn't know much (anything) about computers but I was only 13.. However with no software available (all the shops were selling C64, Spectrum etc.) and with no real mo...

Re: dflat language update

I'm not a Sedoric expert, far from it, people like André Cheramy and Symoon are much more knowledgeable. All I know is that the system is "bank" based, so Sedoric is made of multiple modules that are loaded on demand, so technically it's probably possible to build dflat is blocks that cou...

Re: dflat language update

Losing tapes to Bob Jovi? Having said that, they were also another good memory from the 80s, so can understand your sisters didn't want to miss recording them off the radio! Of course I would love a Cumana or similar for my Oric! And I agree with you, proper mass storage makes the Oric...

Re: dflat language update

The Oric-1 was my first computer as a young teenager between 1983-1985 and my set up was the computer, a small TV (not even colour!) and a tape player! Things like disk drives I didn't have until around early 1987 for my Atari 800XL. However, I still own my Oric-1 to this day and even use it (e.g. f...

Re: dflat language update

I'll enjoy digging into dflat after I finish a few other things on the table .. one question I have is, and sorry if this is ignorant .. but what's the editing like? Can you load/save files to edit? I'll be happy to hear of your thought when you have a chance! On the editing, the ROM allows for edi...

Re: dflat language update

Having spent the last week learning Amstrad's MAXAM assembler, I for one welcome a new era of inline assembly into the Oric world! Well done! :) Thank you! I think in use, dflat feels somewhat like 'BBC BASIC' which was part of the inspiration for the approach I took, but a big difference is there ...

Re: dflat language update

Congrats! dflat looks cool and I like small caps :). But I have one recommendation - change the names of ROM/PCH files to dflat.rom/dflat.pch , because: - dflat sounds not bad as name and is self-explaining for the file content; - it's really easy to change one line in 'oricutron.cfg', so the custo...

dflat language update

Hello Oric fans and Happy New Year.. I thought to post a short update as one or two of you have expressed interest in dflat (a new custom language ROM for the Oric-1 and Atmos). To remind, dflat is an integer BASIC with structured and procedural constructs, plus an in-line assembler. With Oric speci...

Re: CEO Meet Christmas 2020

Unfortunately due to last minute work distractions I missed this too which is a shame because it sounds like it was very interesting. Look forward to seeing the recording. I am so glad that there are such dedicated people who want to keep the Oric spirit alive! I hope to contribute more to this effo...

Re: CEO Meet Christmas 2020

Oh this sounds interesting! Is it in French language?

Despite working for French companies for most of my life, my French is unfortunately non-existent!

I can understand if it is by the way, these days the best Oric support is clearly in France :)

Re: Are disk operating systems independent of BASIC?

All you need really is to have a 16KB file on your DSK, then a small loader that loads it in normal RAM, disable interrupts, enable the overlay ram, memcpy to c000-ffff. Thanks for the tip Dbug! I will certainly try this. Some more touches on the ROM need doing - finding a few bugs and making some ...

Re: Are disk operating systems independent of BASIC?

I'm very much interested in your new ROM, 6502Nerd - will you not be releasing it in .DSK form, so it could be used from a DOS, and thus support access to the DOS packed into the .DSK? I could imagine this would allow switching back and forth from DOS and dflat also? Thanks for your interest! Yes t...

Re: Are disk operating systems independent of BASIC?

Thanks chema and dbug for your thoughts. Ok so basically the DOS ROM is like my ROM, a replacement (running on the overlay RAM) - so you mean it has all the functions like keyboard scanning, interrupt handling also? Or the DOS only runs when the dispatcher picks up a command needing the overlay? Sou...

Are disk operating systems independent of BASIC?

Hi all Hoping this will be a simple answer, but maybe not..! I am finalising a new ROM which completely replaces the Oric ROM with a whole new language and all the basic input output and machine management stuff. This includes provision to load to and from tape. So I have a way to get programs off R...
