Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Regarding Oricutron, my biggest problem recently has been the sound quality. I'm not quite sure what changed, but there seem to be some remaining hissing on some channels when the audio is normally stopped, which did not happen earlier. I only noticed when I started doing videocaptures for my youtu...

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Hi. I've got the latest Oricutron running on Wine, running on Linux and it works great, except for not being able to format (INIT) disk images - it just locks up when I try. Anyone know if this is a Linux/Wine, or an Oricutron issue?

Re: 3" diskettes?

Haha, I wasn't looking to spark a debate as to the safety of microwaves. I stopped using one 10 years ago based on my research back then and I'm happy with my decision. I will say that we were also assured by preeminent scientists that DDT, asbestos & smoking posed no health risks, and look how ...

Re: 3" diskettes?

Has anyone ever tried micro-waving 3.5" disks, to see if drying them out helps any? That ferrite-like layer used, seems to absorb moisture over time. No: But I wouldn't expect your data to be intact afterwards! :) Are you thinking of techniques used to bake old reel to reel tapes, to stop them...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

On a related question, is Jonathan Haworth's excellent book, "Oric - The Story So far" available online somewhere? Or is scanning this a no-no as well? I've got version 2, updated & reprinted when the OUM was thriving. Fabirce made it available long ago, and it's still here :) http://...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

Well, if the CEO guys wouldn't take offense, I've got CEO issues, January 1992 through to September 1993. I could scan & upload them here. I just figured that most of the CEO back issues were already available. Sorry guys, up to now, CEO board didn't allowed issues to be freely distributed and ...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

This stuff really deserves to be preserved. Agreed, I also kind of wish all the back issues of the CEO Mag were freely available, maybe not the last few years, but would be nice to have the older ones. Well, if the CEO guys wouldn't take offense, I've got CEO issues, January 1992 through to Septemb...

Re: 3" diskettes?

Hey, thanks for the links. Interesting, especially the Thingiverse one, I might print one out, though I'd be afraid to actually try it on my precious CF2's. In the video link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-MKpgO4nOY&t= - the disk this guy is demonstrating with, is a 'quality item'. I know th...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

Thanks a lot omelette for this marvelous upload I hope we'll be able to find issues missing, mainly between 110 and 140 Ditto. I'm looking forward to reading all of those issues I didn't have. It really would be great to have the complete collection though. I hope someone else comes forward and com...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

I added the issues 95 and 100 to the file list: http://www.defence-force.org/computing/oric/library/lib_magazine/oricusermonthly/files/ So basically what we are missing in the folder are: - Numbers 11 to 45 - Numbers 96 to 99 - Numbers 113 to ... ? - 145! Issue 145 was the last one. Speaking of whi...

Re: 3" diskettes?

Good to know, I was getting it confused with the ZX Spectrum printer's operation. Regarding the CF2's, yeah, I thought as much, no harm asking though. It's also good to know that if ever I'm short of money, I can sell my worn out CF2's on eBay, certify them as "untested, no refunds" and as...

Re: 3" diskettes?

I would like to know the same thing. I was surprised to read (here, I think) that you can still get thermal paper for the Oric printer, which really was a niche item, yet 3" disks are apparently as plentiful as hens teeth. Strange.

Re: Sedoric 4.0

Hmmm I'm using 3.5 disks quite a lot and they are quite reliable in my experience. Not only with the Oric, but also on Ataris, Amigas, CPCs... My old 3 disks, on the other hand, (CPC in this case) nearly all died probably because of humidity. What usually fails is the elastic band inside the floppy...

Re: OUM magazine scans...

Only 2 OUM issues are in my possession for the remainder of 1995, which is a bit odd, since one is December - I guess I must have ordered the December 100th issue from Dave out of curiosity when I went looking for back-issues from him in 1999. Either that, or I've lost a few along the way, don't thi...
