Crimson Editor Context files for .s source files
Crimson Editor is a free text editor i use for all source code editing under Windows. It uses Link, Spec and Key files for contextual highlighting of source code and stuff :p http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ Anyway i've only just returned to look at O-Type source again (having had an inspiration to sor...

Not everybody needs the full 96 characters defined, so I'm not sure that imposing a 768 bytes long single format is a good idea.. I disagree, by the sounds of it Jede is referring to the standard set which is 96 characters and the original intended characters (ASCII characters) so 96 is a perfect f...

It is possible to do it disk-based. The Oric can load parts of data from disk quite quickly, so I guess that it should not be the problem (though I have not had a look at the sources, so I don't know which data is being paged and how often). What worries me more is the sprite drawing. I bet they ar...

Hey chema, god, thats real bad news and u put so much work into it. Perhaps rather than listening directly to Alternative Software's opinion, you might seek other help such as from Simon Ullyatt of Chronosoft who specialises in publishing new 8 bit games. I would have thought he was the best guy to ...

Hi Godzil. I have no experience with Mused or Sonix, but I recall they are quite advanced and compact in memory usage, though I am not sure they can export your music to be used inside your own programs. Mused was simply a music sequencer. The music was not split into patterns, events and effects b...

I didn't hear bells with the first sample but there is a clear repetition of the noise algorythm which i guess you will always get with the AY. Its very interesting since this may be useful in reproducing a much more accurate white noise generator in the emulators, or perhaps this is already done? T...

Twilightes sponsored Cycle ride
Hi all, i know this is a very tenuous link to the Oric (only because i am organising it) but i am doing a sponsored 85 mile cross country cycle ride from my home in Dunstable to the south coast of England next month. The charity is Marie Curie Cancer Support. If you are feeling generous or charitabl...

Thanks a lot, this is so far on the edge of my knoledge but I'm reading and learning ;-) Sounds like your knowledge is where i was when i met Alistair Way way back in 1991. Back then i knew the only way forward, to take full advantage of the computer in CPU, graphics and sound was to master machine...

For what its worth the Oric on bootup at the ready prompt is running a rather heafty IRQ routine that does the following stuff.. 1) Read the keyboard (scans each individual key for its state, nothing optimised) 2) Updates three page 2 software timers (Flashing cursor delay, WAIT count, etc.) One tri...
This is very smart, Twilighte. So they are actually attributes which are displayed as paper color? Sort of, there are codes that are redundant under HIRES and these appear as blank (or black) screen bytes. 08 in text mode sets LORES0 (or standard) character set, 09 sets LORES1 (or Alternate) charac...
