mmu_man: Tried your trick, don't change anything. I'm pretty sure it's the disk electronic board which is fried. I will try this: http://www.deadharddrive.com By the way, has any one some experience with this service: http://www.jungledisk.com It's an online backup service which uses Amazon.com netw...

I switched on my computer this morning, and it froze on 'detecting IDE drives...' Found out that the drive is dead (does not even spin when switched on). Currently booted on a Ubuntu CD, really a nice thing to get around in a drawer of your desk for when this shit happen, at least you have access to...

Here are some photos of the party: http://mike.defence-force.org/photos/index.php?v=list&i=0&p=2007/KindergardenParty The party was nice, but my Linux laptop was not cooperative. Since the upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10 some of the things stopped working without me noticing it until it was too late. Typical...

2007 messages :)

Yeah \o/

We are not yet in 2008, and we already have passed the 2000 messages on the forum.

I guess that 1000 message per year is not bad for a machine line the Oric, specially considering the signal/noise ratio :)

It's important to be able to specify a load adress at load time.
It's the only way you can have easy to relocate modules, or load some things at some other places than the place they were when saved (like an HIRES picture, you don't want necessarily to load it in A000)

We had some discussions about handling large devices some years ago, and something that definitely is required in such case, is to have some directory handling. Having a SDCard with a lot of files at the same level is just not practical at all, and dir will take forever. Then ideally you also need t...

Do you emulate correctly the VIA and the small chip in the keyboard ?
Perhaps you just have non initialized states, and the keyboard polling routine detects you have the '*' key pressed.

About interruptions being off, and assuming there is a DOS... well, in the demos the first thing we do is to shut out the DOS entirelly, and talk to the disc controller using direct disc, track, sector notation. The layout of the disc is written by Tap2Dsk / MakeDsk , so we are not even using filena...

Two PSU actually. One for the Oric, one for the amplified loud speakers :) I can plug a head set, there is volume control, and the Oric itself has a easy to access reset button, a vsync switch, additional jack input for the audio connection with the pc, and a joystick port in the place where the ant...

Kindergarden. I'm currently backuping all my Oric/source code stuff, and will try to setup my Linux based OSDK. I was not updating you on the news, but I've been working on a new version of PictConv, with a built in sprite cutter. I did that to easily create fonts and bitmaps I can use later as "spr...

Kindergarden Party 2007

If everything goes fine, I will probably be present with my Oric at the Kindergarden Party: http://kg.slengpung.com/2007 Today I bought a Funai LCD-A1506 (a 15" LCD TV) and tried it on the Oric, it works very well: http://www.defence-force.org/download/oric/FunaiCloseUp.JPG I will try to code someth...

to make a freezer you need to map the cartridge over the rom (we can do that) and then trigger an NMI. then you also need to map a bit or 2 to reverse the change & continue the system. finally, you need to write your code to make as little use of the stack as possible. i could design the hardware b...

With the usual restriction about pc HDD drive: They suck. Most of them are hardcoded to use ID 1, so you have to use a twisted ribbon cable to set it to ID 0 (or you have to use it as a secondary drive), and then after that you have no guarantee it will manage to write double density data. Now if in...
