LUDO: 'new' BASIC game

In 1992 I wrote a Ludo game for the Commodore 128, just for fun I decided to port the game to Oric Atmos. It heavily uses both disk operations as SEDORIC extended basic commands, so a disk drive (emulator) is needed. See Github for the finished DSK and HFE builds and all source code: https://github....

Re: Oriclopedia: A series of videos on all things Oric

Ha, great to see! Minitel never was very big in the Netherlands, and we certainly did not have it at home. In my youth I mainly bought the UK and German magazines, which were very Spectrum and Commodore focussed with hardly ever any Oric listing. Spend a fortune on Happy Computer and 64'er magazine....

Re: New Oric Project. The OriClone-1

Cool! Only notice this one now. Absolutely zero hardware skills myself as well, so really can give no help. But certainly a very interested potential customer if this project can provide the board for a 100% compatible Oric Atmos clone with the same look and feel if placed in an Atmos case/keyboard ...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Thought of that later as well to use KEY$. Anyhow: the POKE works as well.

And why does it bother me: I noticed that if you by accident press a key the next Wait for key popup automatically goes further. So apparently there is some kind of buffer.

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Well, you can mix and match labels and line numbers. You can totally add a label that matches the existing line of a function, and use that for new code Decided to use labels after all. Makes the code much easier to maintain and much more reusable. So fully cleaned the code, labelled al GOTOs and G...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Finally getting hold of the English Sedoric 3 manual (thanks again Steve!) I noticed the KEY OFF and KEY SET commands. One of the minor things that still nagged me about my program is that if you push a button to often it remembers that button, making the next popup waiting for a key immediately to ...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

So Sedoric v3 is probably the best option for most. I've attached the manual. Thank you so much! Wish I would have had it earlier, although it was good for my French to struggle with the French version..... Now finally understand why RESTORE linenumber did not work. Did not understand there needed ...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Great! Thanks!

And no problem: if the player selection is not intuitive enough that is also very valid feedback.

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

I was just a bit surprised when I was asked which pawn of my computer opponent should move. That should not happen, the game does have simple AI for that. You did select that player number to be a computer player at game start? It is possible to have more than one human player. You can see if a com...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Game seems to be working well now, managed to win a first game. Also did a quick test on my real Atmos, works as well there. Attached a first alpha. Plan to do more testing and some other final touches (such as copying to a Sedoric 4 disc adding additional music), but for those who are curious alrea...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

in general I just use a block of memory that I just load and save directly. Did change my code to do that, and it now works flawlessly! Did multiple save and loads without any issue now. So thanks for the hint! Apparently it is difficult to make stable routines with TAKE and PUT under Sedoric? @Iss...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

https://osdk.org/index.php?page=documentation&subpage=bas2tap Ah. Really should study all documentation first before asking ;-) Actually did read it at some point, just thought, OK, maybe nice for later and forgot. Especially because I was copy pasting from existing code, so using labels in stead o...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

Actually I suggested this approach not as cure but only to help to put the right diagnosis of the problem ;). But anyway, sometimes '!QUIT' is real painkiller! Did understand that ;-) Was not suggesting not to try, I will. Just was thinking ahead that if this solves issues, I will have a major head...

Re: SEDORIC extended BASIC commands syntax samples/manual?

I've personally never used things like TAKE and PUT, or the equivalent on TAPE, found that way too complicated to use, in general I just use a block of memory that I just load and save directly. That is actually a very good idea and certainly doable! Good suggestion! Just need to find a memory bloc...
