Fred 's microdisc clone?

By chance, I stumbled upon a disc system for our Orics that was unknown to me. https://atari-owner.com/club/threads/oric-drive-options.344/ No indications about where to find a website or any other information about the author apart from his name, Fred, and that he is from France. The design, as you...

Re: Oric-1 display problems

Which SCART cable are you using? Can you test on another TV? (I guess no) About the booting thing, the Oric was quite "lazy" on booting. I always had to plug the PSU first, then insert the jack in the Oric and not the other way round. I ended up installing a switch on the cable. What you see (with v...

Re: Oric tapes not in TOSEC

I am not sure how or who is maintaining the TOSEC, but it is a complete mess. Duplicated programs with wrong extensions (dsk for taps and viceversa), games patched to work with some kind of joystick (not indicated) or hardware, which do not work without it, no indication of disk controller type expe...

Re: IJK interface diagrams.

Maybe iss the one to ask. ijk egoist comes with a nice game compilation patched by himself and surely he is aware of those that supported ijk or were patched some time ago by others.

Re: Little sound fx generator

I looked at Oricium and Blake's 7 and saw the engine, but I couldn't figure out how values could be generated for it. That is probably because I made it for my own usage, and it is dirty indeed  I encoded all the values in .byt statements and used #defnies to ease things a bit, but I did that...

Re: Little sound fx generator

It looks a lot like an advanced version of this , which I used to create the SFX in 1337, btw. For anything more complex, you'll need a kind of a sound engine. I made a simple (even naive) approach for Oricium which I reused for Blake's 7. Maybe that could bring you ideas for something more advanced...

Re: A problematic Oric 1

Man, this one is tricky indeed! But you are closer... I have little doubt this Oric will be revived in the end!

Re: A problematic Oric 1

Well, I'm sure you'll find the cause. Good luck!

You may want to check the main signals in the CPU. A stuck IRQ or RESET, bad clock in or clock out... Just in case...

Re: A problematic Oric 1

I know there are some example when he finds broken memory chips this way, but I could only find a couple of examples where problems were elsewhere. In any case the method is clear in the video (I don't feel capable of doing this, but love watching): Checks a C64 CPU, finds problems due to PLA: https...

Re: A problematic Oric 1

When Noel (from Noel's RetroLab channel) has similar cases, he usually uses the oscilloscope to check for activity in the main pins: clocks, address and data bus, ras/cas,... checking the bus signals both at the processor and the ram chips usually reveals where the problematic memory or track is...

Re: A problematic Oric 1

Welcome! I'll also let other users with more experience in electronics answer :) However, the usual culprits are RAM and RAM multiplexors, and you already tested those (make sure the ram is of the correct speed, was it 100ns?). My only (probably lame) idea is, based on the state of the back of the b...

Re: Looking for a Microdisc version of Loritel

Again the problems with Jasmin... we would need a tool for converting disks / extracting files. I asked the author of Oric DSK manager, but he had no info on the filesystem structure. I could not find any complete documentation either... :(
