Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

Mmmmh I don't think that's it. I think it was demoed during a CEO meeting, but it was a full-day one and I missed the morning demos, thinking it was only the afternoon! See there: https://www.oric.org/magazine/ceomag-183.html# Maybe that was based on André's card, as indicated page 8 of issue 177? ...

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

I think Fabrice already made a midi interface for Atmos around 2005? Not sure where to find information about it thought (maybe CEO-Mag if he wrote an article about it). Well, if you refer to this thing, I never managed to get it working, possibly because of dead solder or something: https://forum....

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

Yeah for midi that would probably work, because there's not much data to send. That being said, as your suspected, the idea was to try a bunch of different devices (like scanners and cameras), in which case doing it like on the 8bit hub through the Oric parallel port - implies going through the VIA ...

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

Now how many interfaces would you want to plug on this that could be redone directly on the bus or over actual parallel port? Well, the MIDI interface would be easy to do directly as an Oric card, there were schematics for that. I was more thinking of driving the scanner or possibly the black and w...

Re: Worth of Oric Atmos packet

If you look on the back on the disc unit, does it has a red reset button?

If it had one, then it's a master drive, which comes with the controller board, if it does not have one, then it's a slave drive, so basically just a 3" floppy disk in a case (much less useful).

Re: Worth of Oric Atmos packet

From what I see pretty much all the software you have is very common and not particularly valuable... but having the six with their black cardboard box in such a good condition is quite uncommon. The cardboard they came from is worth more than the game :D Otherwise, you have an Oric Atmos (common it...

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

The problem you'll have with these devices on the ORIC printer port is indeed missing signals like BUSY. On PC the standard port (uni-directional) was only meant to use the 8 data bits for output, so devices had to use those other signals to send back data in nibbles. This won't work at all on ORIC...

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

Well, at least now I know that the interface works fine, I tested it on a retro PC with satisfactory results.

Did not even have to use the optional +9VDC connector, the parallel port power delivery was apparently sufficient.

Re: "Fair" games for the Oric?

Not sure if it can be "completed", but Defence Force is definitely a game where when I lose I knew it was my fault, mostly because I was either too eager to save a human or did not bother looking at the radar map, or used too many shields instead of keeping some in reserve.

Re: Adventure Games and Solutions, Help needed !

But regarding the Scott Adams games, as far as I can see on oric.org, they have been arranged as a collection in disc format. Is there a way to convert the contents to individual .tap files? It also begs the question: when should a game for the Oric be regarded as "saved" or "preserved"? I.e. what ...

Re: looking for a pixel flood fill routine

I'm now down to "238", but running a bit out of gaz, so sharing the current code. No guarantee there are no bugs, and the buffer sizes is not adjusted, so it's just so you can play with it. FloodFill.zip in the C file there's a #ifdef that can be used to swap between the circle test and an actual pi...

Re: looking for a pixel flood fill routine

I still did not manage to get Geffers assembler routine to run, but I managed to get the BASIC one to work, and then I converted it to C. It still quite slow, but it does not explode on some relatively complex shape, so I guess it could relatively easily be converted to assembler. image_2022-01-18_2...
