Re: Disk drive headache

Is it possible that the drive switches are set-up to be 1, 2 or 3 instead of 0? Typically PCs have weird floppy setups with twisted cables because many drives have weird ID number, often a PC drive can't be used on an Atari ST because the ID is not correct, maybe the same thing happened to the drive...

Re: Jasmin drive electric shema

Normally, a Jasmin system boots on the Oric by default, and only boots on disk if you press the button.

Not quite sure which magic does that, I don't actually know how that's implemented, but there are a few knowledgeable people regarding the Jasmin around here, hopefully they will be able to help.

Re: Space Force [raxiss]

I believe that was this demo:
MARIO.tap
(7.56 KiB) Downloaded 13 times
It's all in C with memcopy for everything, so it's super slow, but the idea was to see if it would work to move "large objects" at the block level, and some background details at the pixel level by doing real-time reconfiguration of the charset

Re: Space Force [raxiss]

As usual on the Oric the core of the issue has to do with the amount of data to move in one frame, and the fact there is no double buffering. Technically we don't need all these intermediate buffers, but we also want to avoid flickering as much as possible, which is why we tend to use buffers, to do...

So, just add some different backs and pressing 'B' will cycle them
That's the solution used by Microsoft Solitaire games.

Re: Memory [raxiss]

I think I would be happy with just something just plain white or plain black, or with a different set of colors shown alternated so they are easy so distinguish from actual symbols to memorize :)

Re: Memory [raxiss]

Another thing maybe: Is it possible to have less decoration on the back of the tiles, to me they look too much like actual patterns.

Just to make it fair, people, if you post a screenshot, make sure it's from your first attempt, not your best out of 15 ;)

Re: Memory [raxiss]

Nice game :) image_2022-11-19_083720625.png EDIT: Looks like maybe you should have the random number generator turn in the background during the intro so we don't always start with the same level, and possibly have like in FreeCell an option to enter a specific game number so people can compete on t...

Re: Space Force [raxiss]

The big problem (in my opinion) is that I'm also using a double buffer (bg buffer and tmp buffer), which means that what we see on the screen is drawn three times. The process below is as follows: 1. bg buffer is moved down and new tiles are drawn. 2. copy the bg buffer to the tmp buffer. It's prob...

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

I had to re-read the entire thread to remember what it was all about. First, I think I need to re-address the fact that you don't need to know if a floppy contains some Sedoric, Jasmin, floppy builder or even Atari or MS-DOS formatted data to be able to copy it, as long as you replicate the number/l...

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

Is it not possible to compute some reliable offsets range from reading multiple tracks and trying to figure out how many bytes spaced different sectors on properly readable tracks, and use that as heuristics for the "complicated" tracks?

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

On the real Oric, if you read the same track multiple times, do you get the exact same result, or does some of the data change?
