Re: Disk drive headache

Symoon, do you have a Gotek? If yes this would be an easy option to be sure that controllers are OK and the problem is really in the drives. I do but not at the same place ;) That being said, next to inoperative 3" drives, I also have 3.5" drives that could be used for the same test. I sa...

Dbug wrote: Sun Nov 27, 2022 4:37 pm Is it possible that the drive switches are set-up to be 1, 2 or 3 instead of 0?
Nope, I haven't changed anything to those drives that were working a few years back. And none of those cables I'm using are twisted (same: didn't change anything here)

Disk drive headache

Hi, This weekend I tried to set up an Oric + drive config. As usual as soon as I touch disks, it failed miserably. I had three Orics (two of which had already been using disks), and two drives (a master Microdisc, and a slave which I use with a controller card made by Silicebit). I had two different...

How are you doing to update so fast!
Made an attempt, so far working perfectly here, thanks a lot for the update!

Re: Memory [raxiss]

An option to have random games with the v1 (while waiting fo bug fixes from v2  ) is to load the game, reset Oric inside the emulator, then load it again. With Euphoric, you can "rewind" he TAP file by selecting it in the F1 menu and pressing the left arrow key. I think with Oricutro...

Re: Memory [raxiss]

Just to make it fair, people, if you post a screenshot, make sure it's from your first attempt, not your best out of 15 ;) It was ;) And using Euphoric, I didn't have the same "always the same random" starting values! I tried to load the game again and of course like Oricutron, the positi...

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

Is it not possible to compute some reliable offsets range from reading multiple tracks and trying to figure out how many bytes spaced different sectors on properly readable tracks, and use that as heuristics for the "complicated" tracks? If this is about data fiability : this is beyond my...

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

On the real Oric, if you read the same track multiple times, do you get the exact same result, or does some of the data change? According to what I tested long ago ( see here ), it seems it changes. Sometimes inserting $C2, sometimes crushing data, therefore probably making multiple reads/comparing...

Well, at least with existing FDCs, it doesn't. I had updated the very first post of this thread, so we can have a sum-up of the situation.

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

Hi, Today I learnt that apparently, the Fujitsu MB8877A FDC could be used in place of the WD 1793. If so, do you think there might be a chance that it wouldn't suffer from the same sync "problems", or is there no reason it would? (the datasheet might answer this but didn't have time to loo...

Re: CEO-MAG 40th Anniversary

typically something that has no sound or graphics will have a terrible global note because of the average, even if it's an incredible text adventure. This was supposed to be adressed with the "overall" or "interest" note, which could be high for a great game with low technical n...

Re: CEO-MAG 40th Anniversary

Regarding best games and all: beware on Oric.org, I noticed long ago some people used to set an excessively bad note (zero) in all categories to games they didn't like and that were ranked in the top ten, just to have them out of the top 10. Also, some programs may have only 1 or 2 notes, thus ranki...

Re: CEO-MAG 40th Anniversary

No promises as usual, but I can try to sum up our recent exchanges with Dbug regarding how to convert unsued HIRES screen areas into usable memory (displaying nothing). If that suits you.
When would be the deadline to submit articles, so that you can make the final PDF in time?
