Re: Space Force [raxiss]

This is very intriguing - do you see paths for optimization? As I recall, Twilighte got into some very twisty territory with SWIV in terms of optimizing draw lists .. not to compare, but I wonder if you've still got room for smoothness .. ?

Re: Pseudo pixel game prototype.

Well, it ain't no SWIV, but its surely something that I could see evolving to be a very playable shooter... whats with the top-line character mess, though?

Re: Pseudo pixel game prototype.

At first I was like, "wtf rax, you turned my Oric into a ZX81" but then I was like .. 'but you could add colour!' :)

Cute graphics, neat engine and some interesting potential .. curious to see about that colour, though.

Re: Missing games from Oric.Org

They were all released this year along with ports to approximately 40 other machines! Seems the guy built a game engine for all the various computers and wrote the base games in C++ and then ported them! I think he may be an Alien in disguise  Ah, nice, a la 8-bit Unity strategy - which is of ...

Re: Missing games from Oric.Org

GUNTUS is not just a Galaga style shoot-em-up, but a rather good one, actually, and probably the best bullet-shmup on Oric .. so far ..

Or is there a better bullet-hell game for Oric?

Incidentally, great use of text mode.

Japanese Dev Inufuto
Hey, did Oric get some attention from Japanese devs in the day, or are these more recent releases?

Exos

>Exos

I wonder what it would take to get EXOS done in FPGA, too .. the Oric core for Zilinx (ZX-UNO, etc.) seems to be suitably positioned for such an endeavor?

C64OS .. and Exos ..

Nice review of C64OS by retro recipes, and as I'm sitting here, suitably impressed enough to be dusting off the ol' C64 and thinking about SD options, nevertheless I can't help feel there's nothing in this OS our Oric can't do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVeW2ZlV2WU The graphics/text screen swi...

Re: Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

Ah, amazing! Well, thanks for making that effort, it has definitely enhanced the landscape for onboard assembly.

I've got a large Oric session planned in my lab this weekend, I will dig through all of this and report back.

Re: Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

Thanks for that, JonH - I often get tripped up by the "Stuff" section not being visible when I'm not logged in on oric.org, so I completely overlooked that .. off to do a bit of study and some workshop'ing to see how useful this assembler is, will report back soon ..

Re: Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

That's obviously non trivial to make :) I'm under no delusion that any of this is trivial, or else it would have been done before many times over .. for now I've settled on trying to get MONASM and a few other handy utilities together in a loosely collected "DEVUTIL.DSK" image, for furthe...

Re: Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

Then I ask the second question, should it run on a pure tape system, or would a floppy disk drive system be an acceptable base level? Its just my opinion, but at some point it will be time to let go of tape support and make disk usage a standard for these kinds of tools. Of course, we should be abl...

Re: Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

The question is ultimately: What do we call "native Oric development" Well, I think we all want to see the Oric persist as a platform for many years more to come, and that is not always going to be supported by cross-compiling, although it mostly *is*. The natural progression for the Oric...

Towards an onboard Oric Assembler/Editor Development environment

From this thread discussing the virtues of various cross-assemblers ("XA or CA65") , was this slight diversion (thus I create a new thread) on what it would take to build an onboard assembler and editor system for the Oric: As a non-guru, devoted Oric lover, what I want: an onboard editor ...
