Re: Announcing... the AtmoStrat !
It's good that George and Ivan have joined the discussion, I'm not sure I could cope with all the questions... About the ULA "cache" question : - the ULA does maintain a state : current video mode (TEXT/HIRES), frequency (50Hz/60Hz), current address in memory, normal/alt characters, ...

Re: Announcing... the AtmoStrat !
And the PB6 which drives the tape relay is used to select which video page to be displayed :). Does that switch both the video memory AND the character sets? That's true...when PB6 is 0 all the ULA's video memory accesses are in $00xxxx (including those character sets memory cycles), and when PB6 i...

Announcing... the AtmoStrat !
Hi everybody, George Dramcheff has given me the honor to announce his magnificent baby : the AtmoStrat ! A beautiful red motherboard that is much more than an Oric clone... Here are a few quick specs : - 96 KB of ROM giving access to 4 configurations thanks to a rear switch : Oric Atmos, Pravetz 8D,...

Re: South of France Meeting in Vieumikro (4 and 5 of October
Hello guys,
I really enjoyed meeting old friends at this Vieumikro, and new ones like Kenneth (who incidentally is as old as me )
Vieumikro is definitely the place to be in October, maybe other oricians will make the journey next year !
Cheers to all,
Fabrice

Re: Stuttering Atmos
Hi Chema, hi Mike, yeap I have a faulty Oric board where the ULA is ok, and it is mounted on a socket, so I can use this replacement. Unfortunately, Patrice's board has a soldered ULA, and i don't have a good unsoldering station (and even with an unsoldering station it is often difficult to correctl...

Re: Stuttering Atmos
Hi guys, I didn't know that Patrice was going to post here, thanks for your interest... Unfortunately, you didn't look closely enough at the screen... (but I must admit I didn't notice it at first too, and my first conclusions were about the same : the ram is ok otherwise the Basic won't be a...

Retiring from the Oric scene...
Bye bye, "Internet Oricians", I'm retiring from this "Oric community on the Internet"... After about 10 years of service on the Internet, I'm going back to the way I was Oric-ing before, doing Oric stuff for my use only. Maybe I will come back in a few years, maybe in a few month...

As usual, on http://oric.free.fr ... Also, this build i believe has a windows installer, which is not ideal for my VPC DOS environment No, there's no windows installer, the distribution is in zip package that you extract wherever you want. Windows users then execute the setup.js script, this is not ...

Was wondering if we can directly load a 256 bytes program in zero page, and the answer is definitely yes... Jon has a large experience of this: a program executing in zero page saves space (no need to initialize variables as they can be inserted as the operands of immediate instructions). So, here a...

Of course, we can't base on a big OpenGL or Direct3D library like most of those PC demoes... But on the other hand, 6502 code is more compact than 80x86, so those minigames like Tetris, etc. are easily reachable IMHO. Will do something when I have finished the current works... but does this mean tha...

u mean the 2:1 drawer won't keep sliding open as much? With the different angle and gravity implemented, yeap, it could even happen that drawers can't be kept open... Lol :-D i still think it looks dead cool aspect Your graphics are completely astonishing, Jon ! I can't believe you don't already ha...

Since we are talking about aspect ratios... don't forget the real pixel ratio of the Oric on a TV screen is 5:4, so all the bitmaps that we show here would be more flat on a real Oric. This means that the 2:1 isometric graphics would appear as 5:2 on a real Oric... somewhere between the 2:1 ratio an...

Fast sextet shift techniques for the hires ?
I'm posting this subject here but it is related to Chema's question about moving big software sprites in the (so-cumbersome) HIRES mode of the Oric. As you already know, the HIRES screen is made of 200 lines of 40 bytes, but only six bits of each byte are actually displayed. As soon as you want to s...
