Interested people in controller Microdisc or AmpliBus.
Re: Interested people in controller Microdisc or AmpliBus.
Yes it's the slave drive I have complete with the power supply, are these boards still available though ?
Re: Interested people in controller Microdisc or AmpliBus.
Silicebit (the man who designed and built them) should answer this, but I'm afraid he only builds them in small batches. And the current one is complete.

Hi. Is it still possible to buy a disk controller for use with my HxC flashed Gotek and Oric-1?
Is it just a disk controller I need, or is there other hardware requirements?
Thanks

You need the controller and the amplibus (a smal card that is plugged in the expansion port).

Silicebit, I would like to say a BIG thank you for your professional work!

Hehe, Silicebit's work is very professional indeed
Now be careful when connecting everything. Remember there is a jumper to power the Oric from the controller BUT if you do that DON'T plug the Oric's PSU!
That is, I think, the only probable way of damaging your Oric (though, sadly, it has happened).

Oh yeah, that's a really good advice, because it may fry the Oric AND the Microdisc, so....Chema wrote:Hehe, Silicebit's work is very professional indeed

I'm happy to see that the parcel has arrived in good conditions.
To power the system (Oric+controller), you have two options (well, really you have three):
1.- Unset the jumper 5V->33 and use independent PSU for Oric and controller.
2.- Set the jumper 5V->33 and use one PSU to power controller, and through controller, power the Oric too. As Chema said, not use the Oric PSU!!
3.- Set the jumper 5V->33 and use the Oric PSU to power the Oric, and through Oric, power the controller. This not recommended because you can overload the internal regulator of Oric.

Buf! Has anybody ever tried this? Anyway you still have to power the FDD with an external source, don't you?Silicebit. wrote: 3.- Set the jumper 5V->33 and use the Oric PSU to power the Oric, and through Oric, power the controller. In my experience the best and easiest solution is: use a external source to power the Floppy+Controller+Oric, set the jumper and put your Oric's PSU in a drawer to avoid any temptation
I am not a hardware guy, but having a good 5v power and avoiding the internal regulator, your Oric will be much cooler and happier
