Oric Atmos in FPGA

This is the right place to discuss on how to implement hardware vsync, adding a VIA or AY chipset, puting multiple roms, or how to design a new flash expansion card.

Oric Atmos in FPGA

Post by barnsey123 »

Anyone seen this (fairly recent September 2013)?

What would be cool is a modern implementation of the Oric in FPGA coupled with a Cumulus. I know my own Atmos is a bit flaky (needs a good 10-20 mins warp up before it'll load anything) so maybe it's on it's way out...need something for the next 30 years... :)

I've been thinking of ways to cram an Oric into an FPGA *on* the Cumulus board. ;) The case is just too Atmos'y for me not to have that impulse ..

I know that Torlus worked on such a thing (putting an Oric in a FPGA)

Embedding an Oric in the Cumulus won't be possible without completely rework the cumulus

I reread the webpage, and he made a major mistake, assuming the remaining 16K is never used. His implementation will not be usefull for "real" oric use, as no floppy can be used with his Oric in FPGA. And if you put an Oric in a FPGA, just put the Microdisc (and jasmin) inside, no need for external hardware :)
