Printers

If you want to ask questions about how the machine works, peculiar details, the differences between models, here it is !
How to program the oric hardware (VIA, FDC, ...) is also welcome.

Hi folks

I've just been asked if any modern printers work with the Oric. I have no idea. Does anyone know if anything will work ???

That's a good question.

I'd say that if the printer has a parallel/centronics port, it should work.
My last printer had only USB, so it definitely would not work.

Hello
The oric printer uses a classic protocol transferring data. Normally if you connect DATA 0 to 7, Strobe and acknoledgement (parallel mode) you can print in text mode.Exept:
-Maybe british characters.(sometimes there are switches on the printer to choose Mother Queen Country) :D
-Graphic instructions may be different with printer brand.
If the text mode is compatible, maybe you must create a machine code routine to "translate" the HIRES screen for your printer...

It's meant to work if the printer understands ASCII, I think. Some time ago I choose a HP inkjet for this reason - to work with the Oric. It didn't.
I think the PC sent some code (?) but there is nothing in the manual to give the code. My HP didn't work with the Oric. The last inkjets I remember working were the old Canon BJs.

Perhaps some of you could try it and see if you get an output?
