mageco joystick interface information?

If you want to ask questions about how the machine works, peculiar details, the differences between models, here it is !
How to program the oric hardware (VIA, FDC, ...) is also welcome.

mageco joystick interface information?

Post by nobbysnuts »

Hi Ive recently added a mageco joystick interface to my growing collection of oric stuff (made it my mission to preserve as much oric hardware as I can afford)and wondered if anyone had any info on it as I have not got any manual with it ,Ive had it apart and was very suprised to see it has made in england on it and the circuit looks really basic.
also anyone know any software thats compatable with it
many thanks Ian

ps wifes thrown out my hoard of plotter pens by mistake anyone know where I can get some working or not as ive only got 3 left and I need at least 4 as Ive got an Idea on refiling them.

I don't know the Mageco one. Any pictures? I would try it with a program that accepts two or three joysticks and see if any of the options work.

The old plotter pens could be got a while ago. Was it Hakan that found them?
They can be reinked using printer ink or via replacing the inside with a similar felt tip pen middle. It's fiddly and messy, but can work.
Surgical spirit is sometimes useful to clean any clogged up pens. You can thin ink with it too but if it gets too thin it'll run - so be careful .

I might have the doc, not sure, but you'll have to wait a few weeks before I'm able to check (the doc, if I have it, is far away at the moment).

It will probably be in French.

Well, I finally had a look and I'm very sorry, but I mixed up with Mageco's vocal synthesizer. I don't have the Mageco joystick interface... :?

Can anyone else help ?

I think it's the Mageco one.
IIRC it worked just like the PASE interface.

The only differences with the one of the picture, is that mine :
- got some white connectors for the joystick
- the ribbon connector, that goes to the "printer" port of the Oric, is black.

@nobbysnuts :
OK, there we go !
Try the game "attack of the cybermen" in order to check for this quickly (the game supports 3 different joystick interfaces), you can find the tap file here (CEO web site):
http://www.oric.org/index.php?page=soft ... um_log=986
(you have to be registered on the website in order to load the tap file)

Then you convert it to a wav file and load it on Oric :
read the first post here : http://forum.defence-force.org/viewtopic.php?t=339

Then, you can go there in order to get some details on your joystick interface (source codes, documentation,...) (Muso's Oric site) :
http://www.48katmos.freeuk.com/joy.htm

And here in order to play with various titles (Dominique Pessan's Oric site) :
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dominique.p ... ystick.htm

enjoy
