A bit off topic but I need doc/book reference about Atari ST hardware programming (I mean banging the hardware). Any suggestions?

Most good recent references are online, search for the Compendium, Atari hardware register list, cookie jar, blitter reference manual. Should give a start. You can look at my atari demos source codes on the SVN server as well :)

I know a guy who is working on a super detailed Atari ST hardware reference. He's measuring all the timing characteristics with an oscilloscope, including differences between the different revisions of the ST.
