If I undestand correctly its only for the members of the club.
Why in 2010 its like that ? Opening this to non members would be nice no ?
Like asking people for contributions etc. The Oric community is too small to make it smaller by reserving stuff to a lesser number of people IMHO.

I think the issue is deeper than the availability of the CEO Mag.

The Mag is just a side thing relative to the club activities. As a real club there is a financial amount (small one) to pay to be a member of the club, which gives you access to the magazine, but also the services offered by the club like the repairing of hardware, or the club doing large orders of components for new devices, or organizing the Oric meetings (finding places, finding famous people to come, etc...).

Giving the mag for free would seriously reduce the financial situation of the club, then again it would possibly help having more people participating.

Not sure how to deal with all that.

Suggestions?

The CEO is a non-profit association (French loi 1901).
The money is spent in:
- sending "paper" magazines to the few subscribers that didn't want the electronic version
- sending quarterly disks and annual CD (same: for the ones that can't download them)
- post costs for sending various hardware, tapes and so on
- hiring a room for the meetings (twice a year)
- partly financing Oric.org (not sure the club isn't late on this part)
- (I hope) partly helping the few ones still repairing hardware

The activities inside the club have reduced as time goes by, because there are less active members. Today the CEO Mag is the main, if not the only, motivation to subscribe to the CEO.

So giving the CEO-Mag away for free means no CEO anymore.
No more meetings.
Possibly no more Oric.org
And probably very quickly no more CEO-Mag, which lives on André C.'s work to keep it alive for the Club.

Sure such a club doesn't make sense as much as it did 20 years ago when the Internet didn't exist and when there were lots of people to care for it, but it's still there for good reasons IMO ;)

I've wait a lot of time to enter in the CEO association (i've hesitated for at least 10 years).
I do it 2 years ago and i'm happy with it. up to date, the price is quite small (in front of the price of my oric, and accessories on ebay) but it's not the big reason.

- Community is very active and ready to help.
- CEO Mag is a good one with stories i read as soon as possible on my PC.
- It's the opportunity for me to try to make something like about 30 years ago and there is no price to this. There no big interest but the feedbacks of people are giving energy.

It's fun. Fun as a price in our consumers society ...
Do it, help this community to grow :P

I'd join, but I don't think my French is good enough to really benefit from it ..

Symon, what do you think of for example having a selection of few issues of the CEO mag, like 10 or so, starting from number one, and have these hosted on Defence-Force as downloadable samples on the existing page:
http://www.defence-force.org/computing/ ... /index.htm, at least people would know what the magazine look like, and for foreigner if they can actually get any benefit from reading it.

Then I could have a text explaining how to subscribe to the club, and explaining the added benefits provided by the club).

I also wonder how many people know which page is really used by the CEO:

Apparently this second website does not exist anymore, if the first link is the real one, would be worth having the old site point on the new one (because my own links were still pointing on that old one!).

I must admit I'd agree but I'm not the one deciding
Furthermore, I know this means a certain amount of work (removing all personnal information from the magazines), and don't know who could do it - don't laugh, the remaining active ones have very little spare time and such a simple thing could take a while.
This could (or should) also be done on the CEO site.
But that's a good idea IMHO. I'll forward your message to CEO's mail.

Sadly the login / password for the old site has been lots years ago...
