Hi all,

I need your help on a stupid question, but I realise I never really knew that...
How do you call these different types of tape boxes? Is there a "standard" name for each?

Cool, thanks :)
Just to be sure in the context I needed this translation, if I describe different packaging versions of the same program, does it make sense to say:
"the 1st version was sold in a tape box, then a 2nd one was later sold with a tape case"?

I think there might be a bit of confusion - but I'd prefer to hear the second type of case referred to as a "cassette album" rather than a case ..

I've seen the first type being called "Crystal" case a number of time.

Thanks guys. So did I for the "crystal" case...
What's funny is that, if I understand correctly, there is no specific English word for the 2nd type? As well, as far as I know, there is no dedicated word in French...
Strange no? ;)

The one at the bottom is also known as a clamshell case.

Don't they call the clear ones jewel cases? Maybe that is just CD cases(?) I have seen them called standard cassette case or clear standard cassette library case. https://tapeline.info/v2/clear-cassette ... -case.html

The black ones are sometimes called clam shell cases.

The larger ones sometimes get called video cases although they stopped putting videos in those sort of cases.

I think that is for music rather than the case itself. You could get a Deep Purple album on cassette or vinyl, for example.
