Inserted a Win98

Comments, problems, suggestions about Oric emulators (Euphoric, Mess, Amoric, etc...) it's the right place to ask. And don't hesitate to give your tips and tricks that help using these emulations in the best possible way on your favorite operating system.

Inserted a Win98

Post by TheSpider »

Finally got hold of another Win98 machine to use in my setup.
I love my AMD64 WinXP-Pro PC, but it is not the greatest for running Euphoric. Half of the time the emulator hangs up when starting.

So, got hold of my latest machine... an HP Pavilion, with Win98SE, running on a Celeron 500MHz. (Ok Celerons are not the best, but at that speed it does fine).

Here is a pic of my updated setup...

From left to right screens....
Amiga 1200 tower
HP Pavilion PC Win98 (unit is under the desk)
AMD64 PC WinXP (unit is the blue one on the far right)
Combo TV/DVD (with VHS player under the TV)

For a while, I got so frustrated trying to run Euphoric on my WinXP, but now should have no problems.
Also have two PCs for connecting to the net on. Both of these, and my wife's AMD64 (on the desk behind me) are connected via a netgear router hooked to cable internet.

Nice setup, Peter !

An alternative to a dedicated Win98 machine is to run Win98 on top of a virtualization software: I have tested some of them and wrote an article for the CEO-mag (should come in next issue)...

Cheers,

Hiya Fabrice,
Yes, I did look at that option, but found it a bit of a hassle, so therefore looking forward to reading your article.
I know my own solution is not for everyone, especially since I had to wait until a spare PC became available. However, I am loving having the two seperate systems, and able to run Oric applications on the Win98, while having say having... Oric.org/this forum/other sites, or documents, open - even editing programs, on this main PC.
My wife just shakes her head when she sees my setup! *grin*
