Re: Parity check live

Well spotted, Sam 8) In France and Belgium! In French, saying (for instance) that your health "fait le yoyo" means it's going "up and down", so it could apply to the data quality on tape. Right now, I tend to prefer Load Vader (sorry ISS), compared to a re-loaded WTF? (which rema...

Re: Parity check live

Ha ha thanks, kinda love Load Vader too... And ISS, very good memory ;) I had a bit of regret not having used "WTF?", but what refrained me from using it was the fact that it would give no good results in a search engine... Assuming someone would search for it ;) "I will always load y...

Re: Parity check live

I'm still working on a decent version of the tool. Should be released in two versions: one loacted in #400, the other located in the alternate char definition zone => both being at each end of the RAM, one should be able to check/load any file. Now, I need your help on the name . It's curently calle...

Re: New tape loading speed - testers needed!

Iss you can use whatever you want, as long as my name appears flashing for at least 30 seconds ! Just kidding, just don't sell it please ;) (and if you plan some thanks section, please give Fabrice (Euphoric's author) a fair part in it: I owe him 90% of my knowledge about Oric tape signal,...

Re: New tape loading speed - testers needed!

Oooooh :)
I thought you were working on saving at fast speed on real Oric, I was wrong :)

(Android 2.3 or further? I'm old school in new techs ;) )

Re: New tape loading speed - testers needed!

Interesting ;) The thing is that, after the header is loaded, there are several operations done by the Oric: displaying the program names, and so on. This requires time, and IIRC when saving there are more than 3 stop-bits sent right after the end of the header (from memory, it's 4 or 6 stop bits, b...

Re: Convert a byte as hex string (to display on screen)

And change JSR $CCFB ;Routine ROM print Atmos RTS With jmp $ccfb to scratch a few more cycles :) In my little program, I am actually directly printing myself the bytes at the desired screen address. Managing it myself saved lots of cycles - especially when, trying to count the ROM routine cost, I h...

Re: Convert a byte as hex string (to display on screen)

Be careful when playing with the decimal mode: That can have surprising effect on an interrupt routine that can trigger between the calls to SED and CLD. Do you mean ideally the author should have disabled the interrupts first? (In my case, as I'm operating while a program is loading, there are no ...

Re: Convert a byte as hex string (to display on screen)

Nice!
If I'm counting right, the table solution (the latest one, being closer to the 1st routine posted) is two cycles faster ;)
For 32 bytes (I'm not counting the RTS) against 19 though. But it all depends on what has to be optimised, the speed gain has a cost :)

Convert a byte as hex string (to display on screen)

One thing I always thought would be boring to do in assembler, is having to convert a byte value to display it on screen. For instance, A contains the value #60. If you directly put it on screen, on the Oric you'll get the ASCII char for "(c)". But how to display "60" instead, wh...

Updated the disks with Steve's scans of the disk labels (and see stuff for the full label, or full disk scan)

Oh sh*t, didn't even notice. Too much happening in the Oric world for my old brain ;) Steve, I'll put it on Oric.org tonight. EDIT: done ! https://www.oric.org/index.php?page=software&fille=detail&id=&num_log=881 (and don't forget to connect, so you can see the "stuff" sections...

That's great news! If you can put the instructions on your scan list, that would be great :)
Thanks Steve.

Re: Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)

You're welcome Rob, restoring old tapes is often an interesting trip. So it's a win-win, especially as we may soon have a few more tools to restore (very lightly) damaged tapes ;) Maurice made another new WAV file, with another tape player, and although not perfect it seems much better than the prev...

And now, enjoy Rob's game (we owe him 1st this piece of software! :D )
