Let's talk about a Mini-DOS

In these last years, I've been talking with a number of people that had (like me) some large scale projects on the Oric. Some wanted to port games, some wanted to port applications, some wanted to create demos. The common point of all these projects is that they use the floppy disc drive, the other ...

Except that I think that since the rotation (relatively to the head position) is faster the farther you got from the center, I fear that the pulses to read and write are getting longer and longer. (longer "bits") ?

My own idea is to actually consider the problem on a track by track basis. At maximum we have 18 sectors to load in a track. And the loading of these sectors are critical. The track change is not that important. The idea is to have the replay routine to not actually sent data to the PSG, but instead...

The thing you need to ask there though is the targetting. If you have no intention in supporting an operating system which died it's death around 1998 then you will need to keep the filenames in the 8.3 format. However, if you want a platform independent fix, you need to ditch dos and move on. Unde...

Wouldn't it make more sense to follow the set up of the system (for instance, binaries in /usr/bin and libs in /usr/local/lib for Linux or in Program Files for Win32)? Well, it makes sense, but it is not necessarily practical or even suitable. The first thing to consider, is that half of the tools ...

Well, I would have loved to get forums on oric.org, but if I decided to put them on my own server, it's because the sad truth is that Oric.org has not been update for ages... And if there is something to fix, I can do it her. I have no power of any kind on oric.org Anyway, if you need to remeber, ju...

There is no register on the oric to know where th...

In the VIP4 demo we are using if I remember correctly 4 bit samples (two of them in each byte), replayed with a fast interupt routine. There are actually two routines, one knows how to extract low nibble, and the other one the high nibble. Each one change the IRQ handler to point on the other one, t...

I found an old project "osdk-dev" that I made with Jylam when we tried to do a common tree structure that compile both on windows and linux.

Since I'm not sure it's up-to-date compared to the versions I'm using, I will do some tests first.

I keep you informed.

Re: Contiki on Oric Atmos?

Most of you probably know about the operating system Contiki, which was developed primarily for Commodore 64. It has been ported to a lot of other 6502 based systems, as well as other CPUs. The operating system is written in C, tailored for the cc65 compiler. I know Oric developers may prefer a dif...
