Re: Oric Microdisc: Master/Slave selection

Did you manage to get it working, Dbug?

Keep us informed :)

Re: Atmos ROM 1.1, 1st version (called 1.1a, checksum A65D6CED)

I am quite sure my Atmos has that ROM too (based on the research done when working on the fast load of SkoolDaze with Fabrice and Symoon) and this ROM came from a 1-to-Atmos conversion kit.

Re: Oric Atmos Won't Initialise

4.85v is too low. A component may be faulty. Most of the time it is a memory chip, but if no chip gets hot, it is difficult to tell. It could be almost anything. You can start from removing the socketed chips (ULA and ROM) and check if you get something near 5 volts. You have a good screen image, so...

Re: Oric Microdisc: Master/Slave selection

Aha... look at what it says in the first document (Microdisc 1)

So I am even more convinced that the right set of pins are for configuring the drive number.

Thanks for this iss, it is a very interesting doc. Maybe worth to be stored on the DF library, don't you think Dbug?

Re: Jasmin/FTDOS to Microdisc/Sedoric

Some time ago I asked about info on the Jasmin FT Dos format, so it could be supported I. Oric Explorer for those owning a Jasmin. If you find anything, please let me know.

Re: Oric Microdisc: Master/Slave selection

Yeah, but the jumper/switch area is different :(

Again, my guess is that it is the right 4 jumper set what you are looking for. Moreover when the second picture shows a much similar drive with the left set completely removed. Worth a try.

I don't think you could damage the drive.

Re: Oric Microdisc: Master/Slave selection

The controller supports several drives, I can confirm that from my clone. It follows the Shuggart specification, which means that the drive, from 0 to 3, is selected with a signal in the bus. A flat cable is used. The drive should have a set of jumpers or DIP switches to configure it as ds0-3. I fou...

Re: How to create random number with machine code?

Just for the records. The routine I posted before (made by a friend of mine) produces a repeatable series of numbers between 0 and 32768 (repeatable if the seed is re-used, that is), with quite nice randomness properties. Matlab's randomness test shows: [h,p]=runstest(v, median(v)) Warning: X values...

Re: Help with a "Your computer" program

I *had* that Your Computer.... The only one I ever had :D I remember this article perfectly, and I am quite sure there was another with a Fill routine? And the text said something such as "it's nearly as fast as the Oric version of the Hobbit!", so I learnt there indeed existed an Oric's version of ...

Re: Dead oric 1

Well, usually you either got a picture full of scrambled (sometimes even colorful and flashing) squares and bars and the Oric does not boot, or it boots but hangs or makes strange things. Of course it may not generate an RF image and a SCART cable may help. If the Oric boots it usually makes sounds ...

Re: Dead oric 1

I guess this might not be funny for the owner, or maybe yes. But I can tell you that I am following this with a lot of interest, as a puzzle or some kind of mystery TV series :)

Keep on! I am sure you'll get the Oric back to working condition!

Re: At last a smooth(ish) - pseudo hires horizontal scroll

Probably needs to sync with vertical retrace... not sure the frame rate that he is achieving, though. The reason why I did not manage to use this idea is due to the limitations it imposes to put different elements together to create a scenario (graphic blocks bleed into other characters when scrolli...

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

Well, in fact what I have is the first Atmos ROM version, which does the right thing, and it is not bugged :) It checks for errors and stops loading if it finds them. What the Oric people did, after realizing that there were loading errors still, was to remove the error checking altogether in the se...

Re: At last a smooth(ish) - pseudo hires horizontal scroll

I must confess I am quite impressed. Congratulations! You beat me definitely with this one. I had been toying with the same idea for a scrolling game after I failed to perform a smooth scroll in Oricium. I think Dbug suggested the idea of redefining the charset for this (what I did for the stars). R...

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

Mmmm no, my routine goes on a similar path, but can work only with selecting the pair of letters which repeats most. In fact it is a bit more complex, as can code combinations of several letters if they repeat often enough with just one token. But your problem is the calculation of the savings, so w...
