Re: Modern Software Packaging

Looks really nice!

About the foam, so you buy a small slab, cut it and open a 'compartment' with the shape of the floppy? How do you do this? with a cutter?

And what about the internal 'compartments' that come to fit the DS cartridge? Did you cut them off?

Re: OricExos - making the impossible

Will do!!! As I said I really find this very interesting and you are doing magic.

And if you revived old rusty non-working boards, then you are fully redeemed... And praised :D

Re: OricExos - making the impossible

The project is awesome, don't get me wrong. The thing is that there are two lines in the retro-scene: those who like to mod their machines so they get new features or are more comfortable to use, and those who'd prefer to keep those museum pieces as mint as possible. I am on the second. I hated to a...

Re: OricExos - making the impossible

Argh... Those motherboards survived 35 years and you are drilling holes and cutting tracks on them!

Re: Modern Software Packaging

This is really nice. I have been looking for a solution to package my games, and ended up with a big cardboard box. There exist crystal cases for tapes and floppy disks 3.5", available to buy. I remember VHS cases for floppies and I think there were sold later in DVD format. But nowadays all the opt...

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

I know people who use the Gotek with the FlashFloppy or HxC firmware with their Microdisc controllers and they work perectly. Oric's dsk format is not supported yet, so you need to convert it to HxC format, but that is all. You can get a Gotek flashed with the correct firmware and a nice Oled screen...

Re: re cumulus

Yes, of course. And that will rock! I was just illustrating my point that there were different approaches and that there was nothing done, partially due to that.

Re: re cumulus

I am not really so interested in managing the cumulus from the Oric. It would be indeed nice, but also requires deeper changes. See? Different interests also stopped the joint efforts  I proposed something very simple from the user point of view: the three right buttons to navigate up/down/sel...

Re: re cumulus

There was an attempt. Long discussions, many ideas.. Zero results. I started modifying the firmware to support old SD cards, and got a partial success, but nothing else. I really think the UI should be redesigned. I proposed something simple just to make it easier to use, but never worked on it... T...

Re: re microdisc floppy controller board

Hi jdavis6809! I dont use an HxC with my Oric, but other users do, so they will be more helpful. In any case, we know this setup should work. A couple of things that could be of importance, are you using an original Microdisc board? Are you confident it works ok? Are you connecting it to the Oric us...

Re: California Devices Inc and the HCS10017

To be honest I was praying for something weirder and more useful, such as a way to change the starting address of the screen data  (almost there) or some mad way of inhibiting the attribute thing altogether and get a 320x200 monochrome display (yeah, nothing even near that). Nah, I did not ...
