Re: Oric 1 with messy video problem

If he is using a c64 cable, it is not compatible at all. Check: http://www.cbmitapages.it/tecnico/C64scart.gif Versus the Oric http://www.48katmos.freeuk.com/ports.htm And not only that, but the expected video signal is composite, not RGB. He could be feeding the blue channel as the composite video ...

Re: Oric 1 with messy video problem

I think the C64 outputs a composite video signal not RGB. Even the pin-out is different.

You need a cable made specifically for the Oric. And the use the RGB input.

Re: Oric 1 with messy video problem

Hmmm... not sure about your configuration. The svideo is not compatible with RGB. In the SCART you can have both; maybe you are probably using the wrong signal. I'd say you cannot use just an svideo to SCART converter, you need to use a TV that can input RGB. Most TVs with SCART can, although most a...

Re: merging files

I am not sure you want to achieve, but doesn't the COPY command have a /b option for merging binary files?

COPY /B File1.bin + File2.bin merged.bin

That should work.

Re: OSDK 1.15

I am failing to help with this... I hardly use C with the Oric, as Dbug said. But I agree with him: it would be vital to understand that size difference before anything else, because it could be hiding something nasty. There is no use in making aggressive -O3 optimizations work if the generated code...

Re: cataloguing tapes

That was a really nice video Dbug! You were ordered and meticulous indeed :) I remember when I was looking for a home computer. I had the ZX Spectrum on mind, though back then, the games were quite primitive. I had a crush somewhat for the Atari, but it was too expensive. I saw a C64 too, but it did...

Re: PC-style audio output socket

I had my Oric with no sound (a burnt amplifier) for years, so in used a pair of PC speakers. But I ended up repairing my Oric (Silicebit did it, thanks so much). I like to have it working as it should, and the sound is a bit different when it comes out the original speaker underneath the machine, in...

Re: ON/OFF switch

I'm quite sure somebody recommended this switch in an old post.... here it is http://forum.defence-force.org/viewtopi ... 364#p15789

But the size of the Oric connector is 5.5x2.5 not 2.1. Not sure if that would be a bit small...

You can install a switch on your cable. I had one in my old PSU.

Re: Introducing myself

Mmmmmm.... I don't remember if the Oric 1 rom performed a memory test. In any case, you have a picture and the Oric boots, so that is good news. Most probably RAM is ok, ROM too, ULA and 6502 should be ok. The keyboard involves more things, the VIA, a multiplexor, and the AY. I'd check of you have s...

Don't forget you can type PING and EXPLODE to test the Oric, even if you can't see a picture ..

;)
CTRL-G is a good one as well :)
ZAP, for me it will always be ZAP ;)

Re: Introducing myself

First of all, check the Oric works ok :D . The extra bit about the RGB cable is that it bypasses any problems with the modulator. You need a TV which can display an RGB input (I think most can, certainly any CRT with SCART should). After that, I'd open the Oric and check it is NOT a model with two R...

Re: Introducing myself

Welcome to the forum! An RGB to SCART cable is a must. The picture improves enormously. You can get one from retrocables or look in Ebay, for instance. My only other piece of advice is rhat you get your hands on a Microdisc compatible controller + Gotek or HxC. Or a Cumulus device. A floppy drive ch...
