Re: CC65 to DSK

That's very nice!
Only question is the effect of the color attibute clash when cars will be close to each other?
I always have admiration for games authors that decide to work in colors on Oric. Alistair Way's Grand Prix kept the cars monochrom! ;)

Re: OricExos - making the impossible

This greyscale demo is amazing. Very smart example of a new usage!

Re: Twilighte's software list

By digging into Twilighte's archives, looking for a TAP version of Zebulon (to no avail), I found an early in-the-works version of Attack Of The Mutant Camels. Only scrolling and background. I had to change one or two things to set up a disk version. Is there any thread dedicated to unreleased Twili...

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

Giving up Novalight 1.3. Its main goal was to try reducing the Oric working time to save a decoded byte in memory by 1 sample (22.67µs). This also opened a door to extend the dictionary. But timings are too short for real machines. It worked at 95% on emulators, but definitely doesn't on real Orics....

Re: Opcode 52 executed at 024D

I would bet for a zero page variable not initialized somewhere? This is actually very portable, "normal", C, which does not do anything Oric specific and is extremely unlikely to contain any bugs. And sometimes, just adding a printf() here and there makes it work... I have no idea how the code gene...

Re: Thoughts about WAV tapes repository

That's what I'm doing "manually" with a hex editor once TAP files are converted: trying all the recordings on tape and comparing them. Some will have mistakes, different garbage between parts if you don't convert each part separtely, some will be different but both good (slow version with ",S" / fas...

Re: Thoughts about WAV tapes repository

I wonder if it's possible to do a decent software alternative to the hardware "tape filter thingy" box, basically some "WaveClean++", you would record a tape, pass it through the software and it would regenerate a new wave file with normalized volume output, nicely spaced out values, fixed stereo i...

Re: Thoughts about WAV tapes repository

To me the only safe way to go is to use Fabrice's Tape Tools, on Sourceforge. They require a PC using Windows. Make a WAV, make a TAP from it with Wavclean and Wav2tap (this checks loading errors!), generate back a WAV file with Tap2wav. Of course this won't work with special routines. I was working...

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

Okay, so the new version is promising but not working yet, and not sure it will. Loading time saved on Zorgon would be more than 1 second :) So far, "normal" (uncompressed) bytes seem to load correctly, but I have bugs and not been able to check yet if it's a global timing problem, or specific to co...

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

Ouch, thanks :D

I promise I'll test it once I finish (or drop!) v1.3, which is half-coded and will require heavy testing, as I'm changing many more things than expected.

Re: Novalight - very fast tape loading

To be honest, I tried all the solutions we talked about and always found a program which ended being slower ;) So after a full day/night spent on it for a difference of something like 0.005s, I ended up choosing to keep a simple code and make a break with this - really needed to. I'm working on anot...

Re: Thoughts about WAV tapes repository

Actually, we would have much more than 1000 tapes I think, but on the other hand, only the very big early programs will use 230MB (slow speed recording, with both sides). Fast speed recordings only take around 50-60MB. If the goal is to re-create a version that can be loaded, then unmodified TAP fil...
