Re: HIRES ghost line ?

There are also all the "invert" bytes values that could be used... But I mean, technically it can be achived, but for a human brain this seems a bit complicated ;) To anyone willing to dig this subject, another way to begin with could be checking existing known HIRES pictures, and see if they alread...

I like the idea of self-executing image files on Oric! But not just using 40bytes .. what about putting it all in the images too .. ;)
Yep, having data that can be both drawing and executable code is quite a challenge, but could be done? ;)

Re: HIRES ghost line ?

Actually that's funny. That means that by adding and saving a JMP $BF40 right before the Hires screen (in 9FFD), you can make a Hires screen self-executing some code. For instance loading the next part, which avoids a small loader. Other option, adding this JMP at the start of the Hires screen (4C ...

Re: HIRES ghost line ?

I've not tested, but I would assume that these 40 bytes are free to use, like the bytes from BFE0 to BFFF :) It seems so! It's initialized as the following TEXT lines, just not displayed. This rings a bell with one of your pages where you explain the TEXT/HIRES mix mode and in an example, the highe...

Re: Experimental very fast tape loading

Hey, I just realized I completely forgot about checking the tap you sent me! Sorry, sorry, sorry... I'll do it ASAP. No problem ;) Hope it works for you. Tested it fine on 90% of my Oric-1 and Atmos (10 machines, 1 fail). BTW, I realise the idea of killing the HIRES Loading bug is not so useful... ...

HIRES ghost line ?

Hi, The HIRES drawing screen ends in BF3F. The 3 TEXT lines at the bottom range from BF68 to BFE0. What happens between BF40 and BF67? Is this wasted RAM space? Is this line invisible because something like it holds an attribute to switch from HIRES to TEXT? Do you think thiese bytes can be used to ...

Re: Experimental very fast tape loading

Questions for you guys. For the price of 0,002 seconds of additional loading time ( ), I think I can fix (in Novalight) the ugly HIRES Loading bug from ROM 1.0, that displays "Loading" in the middle of a HIRES screen being loaded. The question is: should I keep this bug, being typical of the R...

Re: Experimental very fast tape loading

I'm currently working at reducing the loader's loading time. It's about 1.1 second and this is a penalty for multipart programs, expecially if they're short.
I hope I can reduce it to something like 0.9 seconds (or better?), by structuring the code differently.

Re: 6502 flags C, N, Z, V and tests

All those other options are very interesting, keep bringing them on ;) (Initially I made this table was because I needed extremely compact and fast ways to set/test/branch; I counted bytes and cycles many, many times... But having other ways to do is very interesting and can sometimes spare a specif...

Re: Oric DSK Manager

+1 I think you're right. I belive these "merged" files were created 1st to record BIG files, like accounts history, addresses, whatever. Here André seemed to have used this feature in another way, to make a multipart file. In the end it's probably technically the same thing, but used for two differe...

Re: Pravetz 8D: loading tapes?

Thanks! There's also a chip on my board which is not on yours, just above the sound chip?

Sadly I'm away from the computer for a few weeks now, and I didn't take any picture showing the resistor in detail. We'll have to wait!

Re: Pravetz 8D: loading tapes?

And here's mine. The ROM is not socketed here.

Not sure what they're used for, but we clearly don't have the same chips, at several places

Re: Pravetz 8D: loading tapes?

Next is the ROM - and here is difference for sure exactly in the tape related code (not counting the obvious changes in the message strings and character definitions)! It starts at #E4B6:Oric-8D-ROM-diff.jpg Here are bytes: Oric Atmos: E4B6 8e b1 02 a2 09 20 c9 e6 9d a7 02 ca d0 f7 20 c9 e6 f0 0a e...

Re: Pravetz 8D: loading tapes?

Thanks ISS for such a detailed reply! So apprently, I won't have to buy another Pravetz!
That's too bad, really. But that explains maybe why there was a specific need/design for a disk drive.

I'll try and check if it could be a software thing (If it's hardware... I'm ignorant ;) )
