Re: Sedoric or not, overlay or not

Actually when exectuing my prrogram, I have no idea if the Overlay RAM is ON or not. Depends on what Sedoric just did before, I think. So here's a draft of code written in a rush (as usual, forgive the syntax, I'm only slowly adopting standards ;) ) --- Check if RAM overlay is ON, and ROM type (1.0 ...

Re: Sedoric or not, overlay or not

Now, just need a reliable test to be sure Sedoric is running (and not some other DOS) Well, no time to check other DOS, but I'll rely on this to check if Sedoric is in RAM: LDA $0477 CMP #$08 This checks if the 'PHP' op-code is in RAM in $0477. It's the 1st byte of the Sedoric routine to switch to ...

Re: Sedoric or not, overlay or not

OK, found something: $C800 seems a good candidate. = 00 => ROM 1.0 = 4E => ROM 1.1 = 07 => Sedoric 3 or 4 overlay = 09 => Sedoric 1 overlay mmmmh, haven't checked Sedoric 2 yet, but I'd prefer finding the same value whatever Sedoric is running. $C980 AA => ROM 1.0 A5 => ROM 1.1 48 => Any Sedoric ove...

Sedoric or not, overlay or not

Hi, I'm currently working at faster CSAVE routines, but I would love them to work: - on Oric-1 - on Atmos - with or without Sedoric As these routines are making calls to the oric ROM, I'd need to test before it runs: - if Sedoric is loaded (any version!) - if so, if the overlay RAM is set - so I can...

So there is no way that an RS232 can be added unless using an Arduino Mega.
Ok thanks, I was pretty sure that it was a bit dreaming ;)

Re: Networking Orics.

I will probably implement one more, you guyz prefer IJK or ALTAI? Seems incredible. I have never heared of Altai, so I suspect IJK (or OPEL?) would be a candidate. Would be cool if a UK user could tell us more which one was more popular. But I have a stupid question : could this last availble 'slot...

Re: Networking Orics.

Lots of PASE converted games in disk format here (Dominique's old pages): http://dominique.pessan.pagesperso-orange.fr/oric/joystick.htm Beware that those disks may be slave disks, i.e Sedoric without operating system on them. If so, you need to boot first on a Sedoric master disk, then inster those...

Re: Networking Orics.

I think PASE interface was quite popular in the early years. A few program patches were sold to let players use the joystick with popular games. Then came the programmable interfaces. This is the little I know from France, maybe the reality of the whole market was different... And it's likely that t...

Re: Track reading (Sedoric / FDC)

One mystery solved: the Nibble manual explains how it deals with track mode. It actually reads the whole track first, keeping in memory each of the sectors ID positions. Then it reads each sector, and puts them in place of the ones that were read in track mode... "Because of the bad quality of track...

Re: PC to Oric 3.5" floppy

Quite interesting, thanks Romu.
Seems almost nobody tried them with 3" drives yet, I read somewhere that only some tests were made with a few Amstrad drives. So the card builder was only certifying the card to work with one 3" drive model.

Re: Game Release: 8bit-Slicks Online Racer for Apple, Atari, C64 (Atmos Next!!!)

Nice!
I sure would if needed. Depends on the profiles you're looking for ;)
Got a lot of hardware (Atmos, Oric-1), but to be honest, little time to focus on complicated tests.
What kind of hardware/system would be useful to you at the other end of the ethernet cable? (mainly got PCs with Windows here)

Re: PC to Oric 3.5" floppy

That's exactly like the Oric tape tools ;) My concern is: if we depend from over-busy people at the other end of the planet for the decoding, I don't see why they would waste their time on decoding personal disks. I understand they want to preserve original software - and control the dumps people ar...

Re: PC to Oric 3.5" floppy

Apparently, there are two specific cards available: Kryoflux or Supercard Pro. What I still fail to understand with Kryoflux, is the way low-level files work. Seems they have a "stream file" format, and "IPF". I suspect "stream file" is the reading of the disk "as is" (a would be a WAV file for a ta...

Re: PC to Oric 3.5" floppy

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I've read somewhere that Oric and Amstrad drives were different, and the belt couldn't be changed on Oric drives? But that's very old memory. BTW the drive did read fine a Sedoric disk I made a couple of years ago, so I think it's running fine. Head cleaning was ...

Re: PC to Oric 3.5" floppy

Using (finally!) Silicebit's controller and a 3" drive, I tested 7 more disks: all are faulty.
Some make a terrible rotation sound.

ISS, you said you cleaned drive heads, how are you doing this?
