Re: cataloguing tapes

Well, I played a bit and It's catbas.txt in the attached ZIP-file together with the asm-source and ready to use catbas.tap file. For Oricutron, under Linux, I'm using: ./oricutron -m1 --turbotape off catbas.tap That's fantastic, Iss, it works perfectly :D Thank you so much! I now have a screenshot ...

Re: Oric 1 with messy video problem

If you have something like a Commodore Amiga monitor, you can just do a pin to pin connection and it will work, for TVs you should get yourself one of the Retroshack oric scart cables. I can speak for the Retroshack RGB-to-SCART cables. They have them on eBay. I just bought one for my Oric because ...

Re: cataloguing tapes

For most simple stuff like this, unless you have an @iss around to type it up for you :) , you'd cobble together a BASIC loader to poke the raw bytes into memory, something like :- 10 FOR A = #9700 TO #9900 20 READ D 30 POKE A,D 40 NEXT 50 DATA #A5, #9C, #A4, #9D etc. etc. Run that, then CSAVE "WHA...

Re: removing Oric keyboard

Thank you Mike :) I got it apart. Thankfully no ninja solderers in my Oric. The keys and membrane all looked good apart from the usual amount of dirt, so I cleaned it all and put it back together. I also did my speaker soldering job. Moment of truth.. except I forgot to bring the PSU home with me :o...

removing Oric keyboard

Hi all, I'm at the stage in my Oric repair where I'm ready to take a look at the keyboard. I'm still a bit nervous about lifting the motherboard off from on top of it though. I can peer between the two boards and see that there's what looks like one connector between them. But I don't know if it jus...

Re: cataloguing tapes

Many thanks all! I've had a go with CassCat and Lcat7 but so far haven't managed to get them to work for me. CassCat hangs at the point where you play the tape and TRON gets you to line 240 (in Oricutron, not tried on real Oric). LcatK7 says "break on byte #1302", but I don't know what it means or h...

cataloguing tapes

Does Oric/Atmos have any kind of command or utility that will catalogue a tape? The BBC Micro had an inbuilt command *CAT that would list the names of the programs on the tape. I have a bunch of user-made C60s and C90s that I want to verify the contents of, and it would help a lot to be able to do t...

Re: Oricutron disks and tapes

I've also noticed a problem with tapes, for example adventure games, where you can save your progress. The saving doesn't work. On a real Oric you would usually insert a blank tape to save game data. I don't know if there is a way of switching tapes like this under emulation? (I think it worked on ...

PC-style audio output socket

Since I have to replace the speaker of my Oric, it got me wondering if anyone has made any modifications to allow for the Oric to be connected up to a pair of speakers like for a PC. Maybe something like: DIN-to-3.5mm cable, plugged into external sound card + speakers. DIN-to-3.5mm adapter if there ...

Re: Introducing myself

Thanks guys :) The pen idea made me laugh, it might just work too. I've been inside a couple of old PCs today and they have the right kind of floppy/CD cable that might fit. Didn't have time to do anything with the Oric though. Your rotary whatchamacallit is quite broken. Variable capacitor CV1, it'...

Re: Introducing myself

I had a hunt through my jewellery tools and found a pin vice but currently no tubing that's small enough. However, I DID find an old piece of scrap copper jewellery that I'd made into a small enough tube .. and funnily enough it did work. Copper's a bit soft really, brass or steel would have been be...

Re: Introducing myself

Thank you all :) What I know about the damage is that it spent a decade or so in a cardboard box in my brother's loft, then was transported 75 miles when he moved house - and then another decade later transported the 75 miles back to me. When I got it, it was in among tapes and ZX hardware and other...

Re: Introducing myself

My RGB-SCART cable arrived today! And ... the Oric's video output works beautifully :D However, there are other issues to fix somehow. I tested with ZAP (for me it's ZAP too) and discovered that the keyboard is a bit dysfunctional. Some keys don't work at all, some do multiples like QQQQQ instead of...
